In March 2006, I started a petition to help save the life of my 17-year old namesake Nazanin Fatehi who was sentenced to death by the Iranian Courts for stabbing one of three men who attempted to rape her and her 15 year-old niece. We managed to collect over 350,000 signatures, gain the support of the United Nations, governing bodies around the world including the European Union and Canadian Parliament and obtain first class lawyers to represent Nazanin. Eventually we were able to put enough pressure on the Iranian Officials to grant Nazanin a stay of execution and retrial. This new trial took place in January 2007, where Nazanin was exonerated of all murder charges on the basis of self-defence. She has since been freed from prison and now lives happily reunited with her family.
While we rejoice for this one life, there are 25 other minors who remain on death row in Iran despite the fact that they have signed International covenents which forbid this act. In order not to have to save one life at a time, we have created the Stop Child Executions Campaign to address this issue from the root and enact pressure on Iran to abide by these laws.
Please support this campaign and help save lives by signing the Stop Child Executions petition at:
