What is Serum 114? A remedy? A drug?
To understand what Serum 114 is all about, prepare to dig deeper than the name, the look, or the opening chords. Even though this Frankfurt-based four-piece lash out with controversial lyrics and aggressive songs, a second glance is definitely worthwhile.
Inspired by the legendary '70s Kubrick film, CRM (Serum) 114 is the substance intended to turn bad people good. "But it fails in the end," Serum 114 founder and drummer Nils states. This kind of paradox appeals to the band. "The whole movie is punk; it still has the same relevance today!"
"From our first rehearsal two years ago we knew we had something very special," explains Nils. He wanted to put together a band with Esche (vocals & guitar), and together they quickly chose their bandmates. Thorsten (guitar) and Markus (bass) were immediately on board with Nils and Esche, and Serum 114 were formed.
Whether talking about crime, anorexia or violence, Serum 114 don't hesitate to shout about the things society shies away from. Tackling difficult topics while drawing intelligent conclusions, Serum 114 are loud, outspoken and unapologetic.
Together, they scrutinize society and its many ills, but never fail to do so with an ironic wink. These four thoroughbred punk rockers don't pretend to be on superior moral ground. After all, fun is essential to the four bandmates, and they always find the time for a party.
Newly signed to Bodog Music, Serum 114 are geared up to spread their unique brand of punk rock social commentary to even more eager fans.
Are they a drug? Definitely. Are they a remedy? Unquestionably.
